Youths targeted by ‘Mosquito’ box

Written by Admin on Sunday 14 May 2006

An electronic device known as the Mosquito is being used by police to help disperse groups of anti-social youths in the Tandridge area of Surrey.

The small box emits an ultra high-pitched sound which is said to be only audible to young people.

The Mosquito can be used over a range of 20m. The piercing sound is 'so irritating and intolerable that young people... move away within minutes'. Tandridge covers towns like Lingfield, Oxted, Godstone and Caterham.
