Following an incident where a local sports centre suffered extensive damage from an internal fire and the effects of smoke and water the local authority unable to stem the subsequent thefts from the vacant building asked Business Watch if we could supply a solution.
The fire damaged the building and also resulted in a loss of power and other services, and in one area was sufficient to make the building insecure both at ground level and from the roof.
The solution offered, that proved extremely successful, included the provision of the battery powered RDAS portable alarm system with eight detectors, a static Security Officer during the day and an incident response and mobile service during the night and at weekends. The wireless system being flexible and easily re-deployable didn't require either a power supply, being battery operated or hard wired communication as it used mobile phone technology continued to be used through the repair and re-construction phases providing both internal and external detection in the selected areas.
Initially the PIR detectors were located at strategic points around the interior of the building and the identity of each location established. During the day when visitors attended the building the system if left armed provided the Security Officer on site with an indication of their location in authorised and unauthorised areas. Similarly the situation could also be monitored remotely by BusinessWatch. During periods when the building was secure and unoccupied the site could also be monitored to warn of unauthorised access and to confirm internal patrols by Security Officer without another Officer being on site.
Whilst the building was being repaired a Security Officer was retained on site, to meet and greet visitors and ensure appropriate access to the building, whilst the security of the building relied completely on the RDAS system. Once the building was secure, the detectors were re-located to provide both external and internal detection which enabled the static Security Officer to be taken off site providing further cost savings.
The system was retained whilst the internal hard wired intruder alarm system was re-installed and commissioned providing external perimeter protection until the building was re-occupied.
